Training For Fitness

Training for Fitness

Look around most gyms in Dublin and your find most people performing some type of aerobic fitness training. Unfortunately though most people don’t understand that training solely for aerobic fitness will not result in That lean athletic body they desire.

If you take a step back from the traditional aerobic fitness Methods such as running, cycling and the cross-trainer your notice that the more leaner people in the world don’t actually perform this type of fitness training.

For example basketball players, sprinters,Swimmers, physique athletes ,football players and most other sports men and women mostly perform some type of resistance training or high interval training along side their sport.

About 95% of sports in the world are either, power, strength or interval based with the exception of endurance sports such as running and cycling.

Funny enough though the leaner sports people are the one’s that are not aerobically the fittest .

I never seen a 100m sprinter on a treadmill or a basketball or swimmer on a cross trainer.

WHY ?

Because there is no need, unless your sole purpose is to train for an endurance event then these traditional fitness exercises should be dropped.

Getting fit doesn’t mean getting ripped.

With the right exercise selection resistance training can have the same benefits aerobically as traditional aerobic fitness training.

The only difference being you get a leaner Stronger body at the end of it.

I’m hoping this will catch on in Dublin soon. Every time I enter a different Dublin gym I see the usual people performing the usual stuff either some women speed walking or a large man hanging over a cross trainer both thinking that leaner body is just around the corner as they are getting fitter and fitter.

Instead of training for fitness train for power and strength and your be surprised at the results :-)
