Becoming a Personal Trianer

Becoming a Personal Trainer

Thought I would knock up a few points to becoming a personal trainer.

I have had a clients and friends ask me about getting into personal training and the health and fitness industry .

In this post I will go through a few points that I believe will help you become a Personal trainer or improve as one .

Get in shape .

In my opinion this is very important. How many times have you seen personal trainer’s overweight and out of shape training clients in a gym .

Anyone who is serious about starting a personal training career must be able to show their clients that they have got in shape themselves . If you don’t practice what you preach then how can you expect your clients to do what you tell them and respect you as a personal trainer .

Become a role model and make your clients want to train ans emulate your success and physique .

Find a course .

Most personal trainer courses are the same. They teach the same things and cover the same modules . You have to get a Qualification for insurance purposes . Beware though you will get taught a load of rubbish on your personal trainer course. It’s good for learning anatomy and physiology , but as far as nutrition and exercise go it’s probably a guide to not what to do .

Experience .

Now that you have done you Personal Trainer course , you can actually get out and teach and gain some valuable experience.

This is by far the way of becoming a better personal trainer .simple trial and error with clients learning from experience what works and what doesn’t work will allow you to grow and mature as a personal trainer .

Dont be shy to ask other trainer’s for advice. Even know I’m a trainer myself I still ask other trainers for advice and tips . Ensure though these are well reputable trainers with experience and a good background .

Read other personal trainer’s Blogs

I normally give my clients blogs to read .

Getting new information as a trainer and client is crucial .

Dont become a one track pony.Instead read and learn from other trainers who are more experienced. I follow a few well know trainers and coaches on-line and pick things a like ,try them myself and them try them with my clients try it .

Learning is the most powerful tool you have as a personal trainer so DO SO .

Trial and error .

Last but not least trial and error .

It’s actually good to make mistakes as a trainer .You should learn and progress from these mistakes and not make them again.

Dont be afraid to try new things and fail at them .You will then know what not to do.Find what generally works then work around that .

Tweaking things rather than completely changing things every time is my advice .This way you will know if certain things have an effect or have none .

I hope these brief points help in your quest to become a better trainer .
